The key question that all our clients ask is how can I prevent ageing?
The answer:
1. Protect yourself with a SPF everyday whether it is December or July 2. Eat a balanced diet 3. Drink plenty of water 4. Avoid toxins such as alcohol and cigarettes 5. Follow a prescribed skin care programme
Most people are aware of the last four points but very few of us consider the use of a SPF (Sun protection factor) everyday and all year round. Most people believe you only need to use SPF on holiday or during the summer. Unfortunately this is a very dangerous belief.
We are being attacked by harmful UVA and UVB rays throughout the whole year. As soon as daylight appears we should be protecting ourselves against the rays.
How can I get that protection?
• On exposed skin you should be applying a SPF product throughout the day. • Where possible stay covered up. • Keep out of the light where possible especially when the sun is at it's strongest. • Be aware that you are under attack through glass, windscreens and Perspex.
The best protection is not always the highest factor!
Many people, especially parents of young children, believe the higher the factor the better the protection. Not necessarily!
In order to gain a high factor large amounts of chemicals need to be used which could be harmful. A factor 25 offers adequate protection when applied regularly and correctly.
Cancer research UK and other organisations are trying to change the way in which SPF’s are being marketed as they are misleading and their claims can be untrue. Some manufactures encourage one application per day which is highly dangerous.
Take care, and fight daylight attack.
